The main findings of this study investigating 1143 illegibilities which interfered with reading thehandwriting of learners of Arabic as a foreign language are reported. The results indicated 50.9% (415 of which is caused by asnan and dots) are connected with letter misformation, and 19.6% connected with general writing characteristics. The implication of the results is a change of emphasis in the teaching methods of handwriting, from being only decorative and attractive in appearance, to becoming mostly legible and readable.
