The Teaching of Arabic Reading for the Fourth and Seventh Grades in Jordan in Light of a Proposed Modern Teaching Model  / Harndan All H. Nusr

This study aims at the identification of the teaching strategies for reading used by Arabic language teachers in the light of a proposed teaching model with four different but integrated strategies that focus on the treatment of phonology, content, thinking development and skills integration. The study was administered to a sample of 218 male and female teachers who teach the fourth and seventh grades chosen randomly from nine education directorates in northern Jordan The researcher used an observation card containing 28 teaching practices based on the proposed teaching model. This instrument was validated and Cronbach alpha reliability was"! I The researcher obtained his data from immediate class visits and observation of actual teaching practices. Observation was carried out by \yell - trained observers who reported on the teachers' practices in two intermittent reading classes , periods, . There was a 14 day interval between the two observations. The study showed a low performance on the part of The teachers and no significant differences due to the variables of qualification and experience. However, some significant difference , u .05,  cited due to the class level variable, in favor of the seventh grade. Another significant difference , cx .01, . attributable to the sex variable was also found in favor of male teachers. A third significant difference , v. 0,  was noticed among the nine Directorates of Education. The study concluded with a number of effective proposals
