Value Orientations Among Physical Educators in Riyadh Sector  / Ali M. Al-Sagheir

Values have tremendous effect on people's actions. In fact, they are considered the main cause that drives the process of curriculum development. Among educators, teachers are the ones who most need to clarify the value of their subject matter to themselves, to parents and to the whole society as well. The explicit subject matter values justify the existence of the subject matter in the school and eventually the clarity of the educational outcomes. There are five value orientations in physical education: disciplinary mastery , sport education, movement analysis, fitness education, , learning process, self-actualization, social reconstruction, and ecological integration. The main purpose of this study was to show the value orientations of physical education, to know the importance of each of them among physical educators, and to determine whether or not there is a significant difference that might be attributed to qualification and school levels. Two-way ANOVA and factor analysis were used in this study. The result of this study showed that there is a significant difference between elementary physical educators and secondary physical educators on disciplinary mastery orientation in favor of the elementary physical educators. On the other hand, the study revealed a significant statistical difference between elementary physical educators and secondary physical educators on self-actualization orientation in favor of the secondary physical educators. Moreover, the study did not detect differences on other value orientations nor qualification variables. The factor analysis revealed that the fifteen items were loaded on four factors instead of five factors as in the original scale. The four factors accounted for 63 % of the total variance. In light of the previous results. the researcher suggested some recommendations that may contribute to the development of physical education in schools.
