The Effect of AProposed Training Program in Developing Some Effective Teaching Methods of Mild and Moderate Mentally Retarded Children Teacher's / Mustafa. N. Al  Qamash

The goal of this study was to Identify the effect of a proposed training program in developing some effective teaching methods of mild and moderate mentally retarded children teacher's in the schools and centers of mental retardation in Amman . More specifically, the study attempted to answer the question : Are there any statistically significant differences in the competencies related to the teaching methods between the teachers of the experimental at group , who had training according to the designed program,  and those of the control group , who had traditional training, ? The variables of qualification and experience were taken into consideration in the study. The sample consisted of , 40,  teachers, distributed in two groups, experimental and control. The training needs necessary for the teachers of mentally retarded children regarding teaching methods were defined for the preparation of the intended program. It was found out the teaching : prompting , task analysis, modeling, and shaping . To answer the question of the study, the two groups had two tests : a pretest and a post test . The instrument used in the study was an observation checklist , comprising , 35,  competencies, representing the four-mentioned techniques of teaching mentally retarded children. The instrument was developed by the researcher and was tested for both validity and reliability. The analysis of covariance , ANCOVA,  was computed and revealed statistically significant differences in the competencies related to the teaching methods between the teachers of the experimental at group and those of the control group in favor of the experimental group. However, no significant differences were found with regard to the teachers' qualifications and experience, or to the interaction between them and the study ended in a few recommendations.
